Cookie and Tracking Technology Policy
Last updated: March 2025
We use various tracking technologies on compstorage.net to understand how you interact with our educational platform. This includes which course materials get the most attention, how students navigate through virtualization tutorials, and what helps people find the containerization resources they need.
Think of these tools as a way for us to see what's working and what needs improvement. We're not interested in building detailed profiles of your browsing habits across the internet. We just want to make our training materials more useful.
What We Track and Why
Different tracking technologies serve different purposes on our platform. Some are absolutely necessary for the site to function at all. Others help us understand user behaviour patterns so we can improve our educational content.
Essential Functionality Required
These keep the site working properly. Without them, you wouldn't be able to log into your student account, access course materials, or maintain your learning progress. We can't offer you a way to disable these because the platform simply won't function without them.
- Session authentication for student portal access
- Learning progress tracking across modules
- Security tokens for form submissions
- Language and display preferences
Performance Analytics Optional
We track how people move through our educational content. Which tutorials get completed? Where do students typically get stuck? This helps us identify content that needs better explanation or restructuring.
- Course completion rates and timing data
- Navigation patterns within learning modules
- Search queries and result effectiveness
- Device and browser compatibility information
Content Preferences Optional
These remember choices you've made about how you prefer to consume content. Do you prefer video tutorials over written documentation? Do you typically skip the introductory material? We remember these preferences to save you time.
- Content format preferences (video vs text)
- Sidebar and navigation panel states
- Notification and email preferences
- Accessibility settings and display modes
How Long We Keep This Data
Different types of tracking data have different retention periods based on their purpose and necessity. We don't keep analytics data indefinitely because it loses relevance over time anyway.
Session Data
Expires when you close your browser or after 2 hours of inactivity. This includes your login state and current course position.
Preference Settings
Stored for up to 12 months to maintain your customized experience across visits. You can clear these anytime through your browser settings.
Analytics Information
Aggregated data kept for 18 months to identify long-term trends. Individual session data is anonymized after 90 days.
Managing Your Tracking Preferences
You have control over which non-essential tracking technologies we use. The button below will disable all analytics and preference tracking while keeping the essential functionality intact.
Your Current Cookie Settings
Clicking this button will remove all non-essential tracking technologies from your browser and prevent new ones from being set. Essential functionality cookies will remain active to keep the platform working properly.
Browser-Level Control Options
Every modern browser gives you tools to manage tracking technologies directly. These settings override anything websites request, giving you complete control. The downside is that blocking all cookies will break functionality on most educational platforms including ours.
Configuration Instructions by Browser
What Happens When You Block Tracking
If you disable optional tracking technologies, the site continues to function normally for core educational features. You can still access all course materials, watch tutorials, and complete learning modules.
What changes is that we lose visibility into how you're using the platform. We won't know which tutorials you found most helpful or where you encountered difficulties. Your preference settings won't carry over between sessions, so you'll need to reconfigure display options each time you visit.
For most students, this is a reasonable tradeoff. Some prefer the added privacy even if it means a slightly less personalized experience.
Third-Party Tracking Services
We use analytics platforms to understand aggregate user behaviour patterns. These services receive anonymized data about page views, session duration, and navigation paths. They don't receive personal identification information unless you're logged into your student account and interacting with course materials.
Our video hosting provider tracks viewing patterns to help us understand which tutorial segments get rewatched most frequently. This informs how we structure future content.
When you reject optional tracking through our controls, these third-party services also stop collecting data from your browser sessions.
Questions About Our Tracking Practices
If you have specific questions about what data we collect or how we use tracking technologies, we're happy to provide more detailed explanations.
